Myology Tips!

Mixing Colonized Grain into Substrate

  1. Pour the colonized grain into your substrate bag.
  2. Pinch the bag shut and mix the contents thoroughly.
  3. Pour the mixed substrate into a cleaned and sanitized tub.
    • Alternatively, you can leave the mix in the bag and allow it to fruit in vitro.
  4. Ensure the surface of the substrate is packed down and even.
    • This will help prevent side pins from forming.
  5. Use the sides of the bag if growing in bags, or a cleaned metal spatula if growing in tubs.
  6. Avoid handling the substrate or grain spawn with your bare hands.
    • This will lead to much higher success rates.

By following these steps, you can effectively incorporate your colonized grain into the substrate and set the stage for successful mushroom cultivation.

Optimizing Your Mycology Journey

Here are the steps we recommend:

  1. Allow a 7-10 day resting period before using your supplies, whether preparing or acquiring them.
  2. This resting time helps ensure the sterility of your materials, which is crucial for success.

At aPlusGrain, we uphold the sterility of our products. If you have any concerns during the resting period, don't hesitate to contact our team - we're here to help.
