How to Use Your Supplies
- Prepare in Advance: When buying or preparing your own supplies, store them for 10-14 days before using to ensure they're clean.
- Maintain Cleanliness: Treat prepping a tub like surgery - you can't be too clean. Use 70% alcohol to clean your tub, gloves, masks, and any other equipment. Work in a clean space with no circulating air.
- Gently Incorporate Spawn: Avoid handling your spawn and substrate with bare hands. Gently pour the spawn into the substrate bag, being careful not to let the two bags touch. This prevents cross-contamination.
- Mix Thoroughly: Once the spawn is in the substrate bag, pinch the bag closed and give it a good shake or massage to thoroughly mix the contents together. This ensures even distribution.
- Transfer to Tub: Carefully transfer the mixed spawn/substrate into your clean tub. Flatten the surface of the substrate using a clean metal spatula or similar tool.
- Set and Forget: Once the tub is prepared, simply "set and forget" - no further handling is necessary.
By following these steps, you can ensure a clean and successful mushroom growing process.
